Multimedia: January 19 – January 21

January 22, 2011

Hello all! Today I have a multimedia post for you. Here are some videos from the past week.

Megan’s 20th birthday: a truly global celebration! We first attempt (but essentially fail) to sing the Norwegian birthday song. Then we sing the American version, and finally it is finished off by the Dutch version à la Johannes.

I thought it would be a good idea to fall into a snow bank since the snow was so powdery and fluffy. Unfortunately, this snow bank was mostly ice with a think covering of snow on top (just to fool me). Notice how the glittering snow is visible even in low light.

View from the taxi bus on the road back to Bø from Morgedal. My friluftsliv class visited Morgedal, the birthplace and former home of The Father of Modern Skiing, Sondre Norheim. We got to tour the museum and learn more about Sondre. The olympic torch has been lit in Morgedal each time the Winter Olympic Games have been held in Norway. After the museum and enjoying a packed lunch, we got to go Telemark skiing in the same area where it was invented. It was challenging, but I think I’m starting to get the hang of it. My skiing experience from childhood has definitely given me an edge in learning how to ski downhill on Nordic skis. For more information about Telemark skiing, click here.

Just watched the videos again. I liked the Norwegian version of “Happy Birthday.” Who made the cake? Wish Meghan a Happy Birthday. Just want to mention that I was glad not to be on that bus ride. I’d have been a bit nervous on those roads.
